Should you pay tip when you’re picking up your food at a carryout restaurant?

Monday, February 13th, 2012

Everytime I call for a carryout at a certain sitdown restaurant in my neighborhood, they say this on the phone, "Your meal will be $21.00 and thats after tax and before tip, which we work for very hard here at <restaurant name>".

So I get in my car, drive to the restaurant, get my food and the person says it again.

I’m confused. Why should I be expected to pay tip if I’m not sitting down in the restaurant and eating my food? I understand if you dine in — the server has to get you drink, bread, bring food, check on you, etc. Also you enjoy the ambience.

But if I get the food myself, why do I have to pay tip? I don’t give the cashier at McDonalds a tip for wrapping up my double cheeseburger and putting it in a bag.

That is completely improper for them to ask for a tip, despite what the other answerer, Joe, says. The only reason you should give ANYONE a tip is when they are SERVING YOU, in some inordinate way. I think the reason they are doing this is because they are taking advantage of the economy, but then, this is the restaurant business and those are usually economy-proof because hey, everyone needs to eat despite whether or not Wall Street has been robbed by the rich and the rest of America has to pay for it as a result.

I wouldn’t give them an extra dime if I were you. The only reason you need to tip someone is if you’re sitting at a table and they are bringing you food, or you’re in an airport and the driver takes you to your next terminal, or if someone is bringing your luggage up to your hotel room….things like that. But walking in and picking up your food….to hell with them. Do not allow that kind of behavior by falling for it, because it’s just not right at all.

What has been your favorite baby shower food?

Monday, February 13th, 2012

I’m planning a baby shower for the first time. What has been your Favorite Food at a shower? I’m thinking it will begin sometime between noon and two pm. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Finger Sandwiches with either tuna, egg salad, chicken salad, or ham and cheese for examples. Egg rolls, small sausages wrapped in the Pillsbury Crescent Rolls, potato salad, macaroni salad.

I went to a baby shower not too long ago and instead of a cake, the hostess made cute decorated cupcakes with pink and blue paper cups and matching icing with sprinkles and a little boy or girl trinket on top. The mother-to-be was having twins (a boy and a girl) so it really turned out nice.

Is it rude to be on your cell phones when you are checking out or at a counter to get something like deli food?

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

Is it rude to be on your cell phone when you are talking to someone else or at a dinner table and it goes for texting too? Yes, I know that it is dangerous to be on cell phone when driving.

Yes.

It is rude when you are with somebody else because if you are taking the time to be face-to-face with somebody, then you should actually be with that person and not preoccupied with somebody else on your phone.

And it’s rude while checking out both because you are basically ignoring the checker and because you are distracted from paying attention to the transaction which is an irritant to those who are patiently waiting behind you for their turn to check out.

What is your favorite food? Do you have a recipe for it?

What is your Favorite Food? Do you have a recipe for it that you would be willing to share with me?

I am 13, so the simpler, the better. Also, desserts are my favorite thing to make.

Websites would be good too!

Thanks in advance!

Chicken curry and rice.

Ingredients: 1 red pepper, 1 green pepper, 1 large onion. 2 pieces of garlic. 1 can of tomato pure 2 potatoes. 1 carrot, 1 apple 2 slices of pineapple, Breast of chicken, rice, salt, pepper – 1 cup of cooking cream, 1/2 cup of olive oil, curry powder and curry sauce(if you have it)

1. keeping aside the chicken breast cut in cubes, the pineapple the cooking cream, and the curry, chop or grate the rest into small pieces and place in a pot with a small glass of olive oil and stir fry slowly moving it with a wooden spoon. Add some pieces of chicken breast chopped very finely and leave all the ingredients to cook slowly. After a few minutes, when it starts to cook, add a glass of water but not much. After about half an hour of simmering all the ingredients should look saucy so then you add pineapple and curry sauce and curry powder and simmer for another 10 minutes adding a 1/2 glass of fresh cream in the last minute. If it looks too chunky you can liquidise it after.

2. Stir fry the chicken breast in a drop of oil on a seperate pan and add a pinch of curry powder. When the chicken is done, thow it into the pot with the other ingredients. ( test it for salting)

3, Serve with boiled white rice and Bon Appetite!!
